Along with Australia’s peak motoring organisations, Sutherland Shire Home Tuning Services have come out in strong support of a new initiative to foster the wider adoption of Quality Standards in the motor vehicle repair industry.
Standards Australia has published new industry guidelines for a quality system to the level of AS/NZS ISO 9001. The guidelines are published as Australian Standard AS 3905.11-1998.

This Standard has been written with smaller business, workshops and customers in mind. It describes normal workshop practices and how they relate to AS/NZ ISO 9001:1994. It is written in straightforward terms using language and examples appropriate for the automotive industry.

Russell Scott, the Royal Automobile Club of Victoria’s Manager of Support Services  Road Services, says “AS, 3905.11-1998 will play an important role in establishing a consistent level of service across the industry. The RACV encourages our repair workshops to provide the highest possible standard of service. We see the guidelines playing a key role in achieving this.”

John Ward, NRMA Ltd’s Senior Manager for Automotive Technical Services, says, “The new quality guidelines are of particular importance to smaller motor vehicle repair and maintenance outlets. Most customers nowadays, who are either offered or are asking for vehicle repair and maintenance services, expect businesses to have some appreciation of the whole quality process. A large proportion of the industry is composed of smaller operators who may not be as in touch with the quality movement as larger operations, so having these guidelines will be of great help to them.”
