How The Sutherland Shire Home Tuning Reverse Sensors Works

The parking or Reverse Sensor is a detection and warning system that effectively provides a vehicle driver with "another pair of eyes" when reversing, by alerting the driver of the presence of any obstacles. As most drivers have "blind spots" it is quite likely that the warning could detect the presence of some obstacle otherwise unseen, thereby averting possible damage or an accident. In tight parking situations, it can also eliminate the possibility of "touch parking".
           
Operationally, the Reverse Sensor utilises the principle of sonar, whereby a source unit generates an ultrasonic signal that bounces off a detected obstacle back to the source unit, which is then converted into a multi stage beeping signal through a speaker located within the vehicle, so alerting the driver to the presence of a potential collision.

In this system the sensor beam is conical providing an all round detection angle of 90 degrees with a three stage beeper sequence. The system is available as either "Insert" or "Attached" type. With the "Insert" type, a 25mm hole is drilled in the bumper bar for each sensor and the sensors are press fitted. With the "Attached" type, the sensors are fixed to the vehicle by means of a double sided tape. The "Insert" type is also available in a limited range of colours: black (standard colour), white and silver.
